The IIS is pleased to announce that applications for the Annemarie Schimmel Fellowship and the Dissertation Writing Fellowship are now open. The deadline to apply for both is 31 May 2023.聽

罢丑别听Annemarie Schimmel Fellowship聽is awarded every three years to a scholar working in the fields of interest of the late Professor Schimmel, such as Islamic mysticism, Arabic, Persian and South Asian literature and literary and artistic expressions of Muslim devotional life. The 拢10,000 award is intended to assist the recipient to complete research leading to the publication of a book.

Professor Schimmel (1922-2003) was one of the world鈥檚 foremost experts on Persian poetry and鈥疭ufism. Her publications included hundreds of articles and books on Islamic art, theology, poetry, calligraphy and mysticism, as well as translations of Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Urdu and Sindhi poetry into German and English.

  3. Writing sample (preferably a publication)
  4. Research proposal (2,000 words maximum)

罢丑别听Dissertation Writing Scholarship聽is open to applications from graduate students in the field of Islamic studies who are researching an Ismaili topic. The scholarship carries a stipend of 拢3000 (or local equivalent) and has been established to assist promising graduate research students and doctoral candidates to complete their fieldwork or dissertation.

Special attention will be given to topics related to Ismaili studies, Shi鈥沬 studies, Qur鈥檃nic studies, Islamic law, education, and manuscript studies.
